Choosing the Right Tilt Bar for Your Shutters

Interior shutters add value and sophisticated style to your home. Deciding which features best suit your home and lifestyle can be the most complex step when purchasing shutters. After you narrow down the material, color, and louver size you like, you also need to choose a tilt bar style. The tilt bar affects the aesthetic of your shutters and is essential for adjusting the louvers.

Front and rear tilt systems are the most common, but Hunter Douglas® offers the elevated aesthetic of shutters without a tilt bar. Our window treatment experts are here to share the benefits and drawbacks of the different styles to help you make an informed decision.

Front Tilt Bar

Also known as a central tilt rods, front tilt rods have a more classic style and are one of the most popular features of interior shutters. Front tilt bars are effortless to operate and minimize fingerprints on the louvers. Using a front tilt bar gives a space effortless elegance.

A drawback to this style of tilt bar is that it can be tricky to dust around. Another thing to consider is that the front tilt can make for a busy look if you have several shutters in a row. The front tilt can also be mistaken as the way to open the shutter, which can cause damage.

Rear Tilt Bar

The TruView™ Rear Tilt system allows you to adjust the position of all louvers by moving one. A rear tilt bar offers a sleek, modern aesthetic. The louvers are easier to clean without a tilt bar in the center of the shutters.

A rear tilt option allows your shutters to lie flat if you choose bi-fold or sliding panels. If your home’s decor is more traditional, shutters with a rear tilt bar may look out of place, but our designers can make rear tilt work for your home no matter what the existing decor is.

No Tilt Bar

Wait, what? You read that right. The HiddenTilt™ system from Hunter Douglas gives you maximum natural light and the most uncluttered aesthetic by eliminating the tilt bar completely. All it takes is a gentle sweep of your palm from the bottom of the shutter to the top to close the louvers fully.

Regarding the pros and cons, we haven’t been able to come up with any of the latter. Shutters without a tilt bar are easy to maintain and operate. HiddenTilt™ is available on Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters.
