Keys to Mastering Minimalist Style
We’ve all heard about minimalist style and its many benefits, but how do you make minimalism a part of your home? The first mistake many make when taking the minimalist route is thinking you must rid your home of all your possessions to make it work.
The hallmark of minimalist style isn’t the lack of stuff but instead choosing pieces with intention. Amazing Blinds & Shutters shares our favorite ways to master minimalist style in today’s homes.
Do Some Decluttering
Everyone owns things they don’t need, and adopting a minimalist style is a great reason to sort through your stuff. If you encounter something you can’t bear to let go of, try upping your storage game. A prominent feature of a minimalist room is surfaces free of unnecessary items, and intelligent storage allows you to keep things you want without aesthetically unappealing surfaces.
Be Picky with Texture and Color
A room void of color and texture is generic and sterile, but a space with too much going on visually takes you away from minimalism and closer to the eclectic style. When working texture into a room, choose pieces that won’t overpower the rest of the space.

Use muted shades on your walls and introduce color with accent pieces, like throw pillows and lamps. Selecting Accessories

An easy way to avoid an overcrowded look is to remember to leave space between knickknacks and furniture. Doing this will help your room look bigger and more open. Warm lighting instead of bulbs with cool blue tones will make a sparsely-decorated space feel comfortable and welcoming.
If you want to make the most of natural light without large, bulky window treatments, consider sheer shades that prevent UV light and looks from nosy neighbors from getting into your home while diffusing sunlight into a delicate glow. The Highs and Lows
Try to maintain the same height between pieces of furniture, including seating and cabinets. Similar sizes and lines give a clean, tidy appearance which is one of the foundations of minimalism. How does that work when most coffee tables are a much lower height than sofas? The answer is space. Placing your coffee table in the center of a seating group rather than close to a single piece will provide the balance a minimalist space needs.
Both straight and curved lines are welcome in your minimalist home, and there’s a window treatment to match both. If you prefer crisp, straight lines, we suggest giving roller shades a go.
