What Are Interior Shutters?
Shutters are window coverings that are made of natural or faux wood. They feature a rigid frame and louvers that tilt. While blinds can be raised to the top of the window frame, shutters can be opened for a completely clear view. They are also cordless which makes them a safer choice for homes with children and pets.
Are They Durable?
Yes! More consumers are purchasing eco-friendly products and interior shutters are an investment that will last 10-20 years or more. Interior shutters last because they are affixed to your window and, once installed, are considered a permanent fixture in your home. Not only do they often add long-lasting beauty, but they also offer the ability to increase the overall value of your home.
How Are They Installed?
Installation of shutters is fairly easy! For shutters from big box stores, you can affix them with the predrilled holes in the window treatment itself. For our custom-made window treatments, the process is much more simple since we install them for you, for free. They can be mounted inside or outside the window frame. A panel attaches to the frame with hinges to allow the shutters to swing open.
Do They Increase Energy Efficiency?
Any structure in front of a window will provide a certain amount of insulation. There are frame styles that completely encase windows to significantly reduce heat transfer. A faux wood shutter will provide slightly better insulation due to its hollow structure. Noise reduction is an added benefit. While your shutters won’t eliminate roadway noise, they will help lessen outdoor sounds when completely closed.
How Do I Clean Shutters?
Shutters are very easy to maintain with a dry microfiber cloth. Tilt the louvers and wipe downward beginning at the top. Reverse the tilt position and wipe again. Keep in mind that faux wood shutters are more resilient when it comes to moisture and so can hold up to deeper cleaning. Natural wood will warp if it is exposed to high amounts of moisture so spot cleaning is recommended.
